Long Lost Family: What Happened Next: Viewers "sobbing" as Davina delivers tragic news - but it's not all bad

Viewers were left in floods of tears as Long Lost Family: What Happened Next presenter Davina McCall delivered some heartbreaking news after an investigation into the identity of one man's biological mother provided a devastating blow.

During the programme, Which aired on Tuesday, April 4, the 55-year-old host met Roy Sibblies who discovered at 18 years old that the mother he had known his whole life, wasn't in fact his biological relation. His birth father, Eccleston, had brought him up with his partner Joan, but after making the discovery that she wasn't who he thought, he had come on the show to trace his birth mother.

However, Roy soon discovered the heartbreaking news that his birth mother had died - the year he began his quest to find her.

Narrating the show, Davina was heard saying: "As Jo and Dan [his brother and sister] prepared to meet Roy I was able to give him some of the answers he so desperately needed. We told him the news that Janet has died without cameras present."

After entering his home, viewers watched as Davina, who seemed to be holding her emotions together delivering the news, told Roy: "I am so sorry about your mum."

Taking the news in, he replied: "The year that she's passed is the year I decided to start looking for her. It hurts a little bit more."

Davina shed some light on the situation and added: "It was very sudden and we know this because we have found your brother and sister."

Shocked, Roy asked whether his new found brother and sister knew about him, which Davina confirmed, explaining: "They've known about you all their life."

"Right. Wow," said Roy.

"Every year on your birthday you were spoken about," Davina continued before Roy mused: "I didn't expect that."

After being told about the siblings he never knew he had - who'd said in the show that it was his mother's "biggest regret that she wasn't able to keep him" - Roy was given pictures of his birth mother and said: "It's just unfortunate this is the only way I'll see her. It's a strange feeling because for 53 years I've been an only child so now to see a picture of siblings I feel quite blessed really."

Later on in the show, viewers were left "sobbing" as Ron was introduced to his brother and sister for the first time.

One Twitter user wrote: "So sad when both people go looking for each other then one dies before they're found #LongLostFamily" as well as @Little_WonderUK who commented: "Sobbing to #LongLostFamily again."

Another added: "This is proper emotional #longlostfamily", as a third said: "Shedding many tears whilst watching #LongLostFamily tonight. Absolutely wonderful families being reunited."

"Jocelyn and Roy what beautiful people and beautiful families #longlostfamily #longlostfamilywhathappenednext" wrote another.

ITV Long Lost Family continues next week and airs on ITV and ITVX.
