Long Lost Family fans in tears after mum's emotional reunion with child after 50 years

Long Lost Family fans were in bits on Monday evening after a mother was reunited with her daughter after five decades apart.

The popular ITV show played out the emotional scenes after the woman was reunited with her daughter whose father had left her in another country 50 years earlier.

Aged just 18 months old, Sanae was taken to Morocco by her dad against the will of her mum Hazel.

There, she was handed over to relatives; Hazel had been told he was taking the tot to see his family but he revealed he'd left her there on his return.

That was the last time Hazel had seen her daughter until the show's recording, and she had never known what had happened to her child.

The show, presented by Davina McCall, revealed that Sanae only found out the people who raised her were actually her aunt and uncle when she was 30 years old.

And the show's other host, Nicky Campbell, was also seen talking to Hazel about her daughter as she agonisingly said she just wanted to "hug" her child again.

Amazingly, the Long Lost Family team was able to grant her wish and filmed as they hugged each other tightly and burst into tears while embraced.

Viewers were quick to take to social media to share their delight and emotions and the reunion.

One user on Twitter wrote: "This was such a tragic story, but glad they found each other again in the end. Hopefully they have many happy years together #LongLostFamily."

Another agreed, tweeting: "I hope Sanae and her mother have many years together. Can’t stop crying #LongLostFamily."

A third admitted to being an emotional wreck, writing: "I'm a mess. Separating mothers from their children is beyond cruel. So much lost time. But the bond lasts a lifetime whether they are together or not #longlostfamily."

And a fourth added: "I hope Sanae and her mother have many years together. Can’t stop crying #LongLostFamily."

Elsewhere on the show, viewers watched on as a man who was put up for adoption as a baby was reintroduced to his family.

Long Lost Family continues next Monday night at 9pm on ITV.
