Long-awaited permanent repair work for a Motherwell street is set to be completed by the end of the month.
North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed that a section of Barons Road in Muirhouse from it’s junction with Muirhouse Drive and near the entrance to the grounds of St Brendan’s Primary School will close for resurfacing work just after midnight on Saturday, October 29, and will be re-opened by Monday, October 31.
This section of Barons Road has been in a state of disrepair for some time with the presence of cracks and potholes on the surface.
Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor Agnes Magowan said: “During the recent very heavy rain I was contacted by local residents about serious flooding outside their houses as the drains seemed to be blocked.
“They had difficulty exiting their houses due to the flooding. They were also concerned at the state of the road which had big cracks and potholes.
“I was delighted, when I contacted the Roads Department about these issues, that work is due to commence very shortly to resurface the road.
“Before this an instruction has been issued to Amey to test the gullies along this section to ensure they are working satisfactorily.
“In addition some minor alterations are being made to the kerbing in order to alleviate/minimise ponding along the edge of the carriageway.”
