The Lonely Planet guide has named a small Welsh island as the most romantic place in whole of the UK. Ahead of Valentine's Day next month, the esteemed travel guide has named Ynys Llanddwyn as the ultimate romantic destination.
They say that the small tidal island off the coast of Anglesey is the "perfect destination for couples looking for a secluded and romantic getaway". The island is attached to the mainland at low tide and from there you have got stunning view of Eryri and the Llyn Peninsula. Twr Mawr lighthouse marks the western entrance to the Menai Strait.

Describing the romance of the island, the guide says: "For those interested in history, St Dwynwen’s Church is a romantic and historic destination. The church, which is dedicated to the patron saint of Welsh lovers, is nestled in the picturesque village of Llanddwyn. Inside, the church is adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows and intricate carvings.
"The nearby St Dwynwen’s well - which is said to have healing powers for those in love - is also worth a visit. Many couples leave love locks on the fence surrounding the well as a symbol of their love, making a lasting memory of their visit to this special place."
The trip is featured in a new book, Lonely Planet's Experience Wales with details on how to get there. The nearest village is Newborough, which is 13 miles southwest of Bangor and four miles from Bodorgan railway station on the Bangor-Holyhead line.
There is also a walk featured. The Ynys Llanddwyn walk begins at the Newborough Warren car park, two miles south of Newborough. Start at Maltreath car park, which is closer to the station, for a lovely built-up through Newborough Forest.
* Lonely Planet - Experience Wales is available from February 10, for £19.99.
