London wedding venue used by Paul McCartney offers 100 couples to marry for £100 on centenary

A landmark London wedding venue used by stars including Sir Paul McCartney has invited 100 couples to tie the knot for £100 as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.

All 75 staff at Old Marylebone Town Hall will work to deliver seven ceremonies an hour for couples on October 1.

The venue has staged more celebrity nuptials than anywhere else in the UK, including Ringo Starr marrying Barbara Bach, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, Sean Bean and Georgina Sutcliffe and Cilla Black and Bobby Willis.

Sir Paul McCartney liked it so much he married first wife Linda there in 1969 and then used the hall again for his third wedding with Nancy Shevell in 2011.

Oasis singer Liam Gallagher also tied the knot there twice - with actress Patsy Kensit in 1997 and then singer Nicole Appleton in 2001.

Sir Paul married Linda Eastman at the town hall in 1969, and chose the same venue for his marriage to third wife Nancy Shevell in 2011.

Following a four-year hiatus and £60million facelift and expansion of the venue nearly a decade ago, the Grade II listed space resumed hosting ceremonies in 2017.

But it is now expected to appear even more impressive as it celebrates a century since its 1924 opening.

Councillor Ryan Jude said: “We are thrilled to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Old Marylebone Town Hall, a venue that holds historical and cultural significance for Westminster.

“This milestone is not just a reflection of the building’s rich past, but also a celebration of the diverse couples who will be creating new memories here.

“I am excited to see so many people with personal ties to Westminster come together to mark this occasion. We look forward to continuing the tradition of love at this iconic venue for many more years to come.”

The venue is to “host a diverse range of couples, celebrating love in all its forms” as many tie the knot, enter into civil partnerships or renew their vows.

Couples have been invited to celebrate between 8am and 10.30pm alongside eight guests and two pets.

Many of the couples have been known to share a deep connection to Westminster - whether through living, working, or studying in the area. Others began their relationships there.

One individual due to get married said: “Marylebone Town Hall has always been one of my favourite venues and we were contemplating about where to get married, having been engaged for a year or so. On October 24th last year, I was on my commute home reading the Evening Standard, and I saw the article about the centenary.

“I always associate the Old Town Hall with the Beatles and the 60s, and the photos caught my eye. Both my fiancé and I will be 64 when we get married so it seemed a perfect match. ‘When I’m 64’ won’t be our music choice, but it very nearly was!”

Other celebrity couples who have been married at the venue include Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, Sean Bean and Georgina Sutcliffe, Claudia Winkleman and Kris Thykier, and Cilla Black and Bobby Willis.
