London’s heatwave is set to be replaced with cooler temperatures and cloud this weekend, with a high of just 24C on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s a far cry from Tuesday when Kew Gardens reached a scorching 32C, making the west London location the epicentre of the hottest day in the UK so far in 2024.
The Met Office has predicted an end to the intense heat which has seen the mercury reach beyond 30C in the past seven days.
The weather agency even gave a yellow weather warning for Thursday evening as thunder showers followed days of warmth.
“There will be some warm, bright and fine weather around for many of us,” the Met Office’s Alex Burkill said on Friday afternoon of the London weather situation.
“But there will also be some rain pushing through.”
He added: “There is a lot of bright sunny weather to be had but turning cloudier as we go through the afternoon.”
Some flood alerts are in place for parts of the UK on the back of Thursday’s thunderstorms - with Suffolk and east Kent among the locations where there could be issues.
Saturday has been forecast to be a cloudy 24C in London.
The Met Office said for Saturday: “A cloudy start with some outbreaks of rain possibly heavy at times. This slowly clears from the west leading to brighter and drier spells in the evening.”
As for the week ahead it should feel more like summer with sun forecast for every day apart from Tuesday, with highs of 21 to 25C every day.
Tuesday will see peaks of 25C but it is looking like it could be a wet affair.
A Met Office forecast added: “[It will be] a fine day on Sunday with hazy sunshine.
“[It will] likely be staying dry on Monday with sunny spells and feeling warm. Cloud, wind and rain will be arriving Tuesday.”
