London has been experiencing unseasonably warm weather over the past week or so, with predicted temperatures of up to 25°C over the next few days, reaching highs of 31°C in the capital last week.
However, the Met Office has now confirmed that these temperatures will break, with stormy weather incoming.
Saturday will see the weather stay warm but become “cloudier with the risk of a shower”.
“Outbreaks of heavy thundery rain [are] possible on Sunday into the afternoon and evening,” writes the Met Office, adding that conditions will remain “cooler, breezy and unsettled into Monday”.
The following week will also see thunderstorms continue, confirmed the weather-forecasting service.
“[Monday through Wednesday] is likely to be a predominantly unsettled period beginning with fairly widespread rain or thundery showers, the latter especially for parts of England and Wales,” said the Met Office. “These will be tied into a warm, humid air mass which should clear to the east early in this period.
“Thereafter, more of an Atlantic influence looks most likely, with the potential for quite deep areas of low pressure run close by or even over the UK, bringing with them the risk of strong winds and heavy rain.”
After the wind and rain eases off, the Met Office predicts that the weather will finally be cooler, more in line with average annual temperatures for late September.
By the end of the month and moving into October, high-pressure conditions currently causing the heat should have ended, leaving behind low pressure as we move into autumn in London.
All in all, Sunday and Monday will likely be the days with the heaviest rain, so make the most of the ongoing warmth and sunshine during the week and during parts of Saturday while you still can. From then on, it will give way to more typically autumnal weather.
