London travel news LIVE: M4 crash causes two-hour delays as Elizabeth line disrupted by 'casualty on tracks'

A crash between a lorry and a car has shut down a major route into London causing two-hour delays.

The M4 has been closed eastbound between Junction 2 (London inner ring road) and Junction 1 (London) in Gloucestershire due to the collision.

National Highways has warned drivers there are delays of over two hours due to the closure and the Metropolitan Police are at the scene.

The road was shut following a crash between a lorry and a car just before 10am, according to travel data site Inrix.

Sloane Square Tube station was also closed on Monday afternoon after the stabbing of a teenager nearby.

It comes after the Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway services were hit by major disruption on Monday morning due to a casualty on the tracks.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Standard: “Officers were called to the line in Reading at around 9.25am today (7 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

National Rail warned that trains between Reading and London Paddington were delayed by 90 minutes due to the issue.
