London transport LIVE: Gatwick Express signal failure fixed as Overground services resume

Gatwick Express services have returned to normal after a fault with the signalling system between East Croydon and London Bridge.

An earlier fault with London Overground between Sydenham and West Croydon while Network Rail fixed a signal failure at Penge West has also been resolved.

It came after trains between Heathrow Airport and London Paddington were hit by delays earlier due to a defective track.

Commuters were also hit by long delays at the start of the week with trains unable to run on the Victoria Line and some of the London Overground network.

There was no service on the Victoria Line for around half an hour on Monday morning due to a points failure at King’s Cross.

Meanwhile there was no service on the Overground between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace as well as to West Croydon while Network Rail fixed a signal failure at Penge West.

The M25 in Surrey reopened this morning after being shut all weekend between junctions nine and 10 for roadworks.

The stretch of road, between the A243 Leatherhead and the A3 Wisley, was closed in both directions from 9pm on Friday.

It was so a new bridge consisting of 68 beams, each weighing 16 tonnes, and a further four beams, weighing 40 tonnes, could be installed.
