A new data map showing the average monthly rent for a room around every single London Underground station has been revealed.
DOSE News produced the map after retrieving 2023 Office for National Statistics data.
According to the news outlet, inner London areas such as Hyde Park Corner and Green Park are some of the most expensive to rent a room in the capital, priced at £1,879 and £1,707 respectively.
So, it hardly comes as a surprise that many have recently been turning away from the eye-watering prices, looking instead to the south of the river and outer London in search of accommodation.
Zone two in particular has some of the cheapest places on the map, including Kentish Town, where the average room is £735 a month and Brixton, which costs around £792, though some of its other zone 2 counterparts are costlier.
A little further out, a room by Leyton Underground station can be taken for an average of £650, while one in Hendon Central can be taken for £677.
But while many no longer hope of remaining in London, the city still seems to hold more appeal for Gen Z and younger millennials.
Findings uncovered by the London Assembly’s housing committee last year showed Londoners in their late 20s on low incomes are spending 77 per cent of that income on housing costs.
As housing insecurity looms larger and rental costs surge, many have felt the pressures of ‘rentflation’ pile.
