London Marathon 2019 results and winners: Eliud Kipchoge wins men's race

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of London today for this year's edition of the iconic Marathon.

In the men's elite event Mo Farah finished in 5th place, a way behind Eluid Kipchoge, who run the second quickest time ever in a Marathon, winning in 2:02:39.

Meanwhile in the women's elite event Kenyan Brigid Kosgei overcame favourites Mary Keitany and Vivian Cheruiyot in a brilliant win.

And with the wheelchair and Para athletics events also taking place, it is an action packed day in the capital.

London Marathon 2019 men's race results:

Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won the men's race for a record fourth time.
The 34-year-old, winner in 2015, 2016 and last year, smashed his own course record in a time of two hours, two minutes and 37 seconds.
Already the world record holder, Kipchoge won in the second fastest time ever, ahead of Ethiopians Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun.
Britain's Sir Mo Farah could not live with the pace and finished a distant fifth.

London Marathon 2019 women's race results:

Kenya's Brigid Kosgei finished in a personal best time of 2:18:20 to add London to her Chicago win as Vivian Cheruiyot came second and Ethiopia's Roza Dereje claimed third. Charlotte Purdue finished ninth with the third-best British women's time ever.

London Marathon 2019 men's wheelchair race results:

There was disappointment for David Weir who had to settle for fifth place after 20-year-old American Dan Romanchuk beat off Marcel Hug and Tomoki Suzuki to seal glory. China's Dai Yungqiang came fourth.

London Marathon 2019 women's wheelchair results:

Manuela Schar of Switzerland comfortably won the women's race, adding to her victories in Berlin, Chicago, New York and Tokyo. Tatyana McFadden and Madison De Rozario made up the top three.
