London law firm reportedly investigates claims senior lawyers mistreated server at Cardiff restaurant

A London law firm has launched an investigation over allegations some of its senior lawyers mistreated a 22-year-old manager at a restaurant in Cardiff, it has been reported. Ince, a London Law firm, confirmed to the Telegraph that a formal investigation has been launched after Lee Skeet, who runs Cora in the Pontcanna area, complained that some staff had subjected staff member Lily Griffiths to "inappropriate behaviour" after a visit.

Last week, the owner tweeted the email he sent to the company, stating Lily, a front of house member of staff, was "talked down to, disrespected, and touched unwantedly". He later clarified that the "touching" he referred to involved one of the party of six "grabbing her aggressively by the arm".

The Telegraph reports that the firm had been in Cardiff for a two-day management meeting for Ince's senior lawyers, and racked up a £1,000 bill during their visit after the party got through seven bottles of wine. Originally, Lee offered to return the £1,000 to the party - minus a £100 tip for their server after a tip was not left for her - however later decided against it and gave the full amount to Lily.

Lily said about the incident : "He used humiliating tactics, trying to degrade me for the job I love doing. He was saying: 'How do you make a living?' at this and 'Why don't you work seven nights a week?' It was upsetting - I had put up with that demeaning attitude while I served them seven courses. I was even told to 'stick my schnoz in that' after they complained about one of the wines I served them over the seven-course tasting menu."

Following this visit, Ince has reportedly launched a "formal investigation" into the matter. A spokesman for Ince told the Telegraph: “The company has been made aware of allegations in the media in relation to senior staff attending a dinner on Wednesday evening. The independent directors have therefore initiated a formal investigation. Whilst it is ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Restaurant owner Lee has praised Lily for the way she has managed the situation. In an update shared on his Instagram page, he said: "She’s talked confidently and with class to countless journalists on TV and radio, whilst not missing a minute of running the restaurant to the highest level. I’ve just hidden away and cooked. This has all happened because of her class and integrity and I’m in awe of the young woman she is. Well done mate. You are literally an inspiration to so many people.”
