German investor Daniel Thomas Loitz has launched a bid to resurrect London Irish.
The businessman is in advanced talks with administrators to buy the stricken London club, that slipped into administration last June.
Loitz’s company Hokulani Ltd owns Halifax Women’s football team, and has invested in other women’s clubs around the world.
Any deal to buy Irish and relaunch the historic club would need to satisfy administrators ReSolve, with a host of creditors lined up to be recompensed to some extent.
Loitz represents Irish’s current best chance of a return to rugby and the domestic league structure in England.
The RFU has made it clear that stricken clubs like Worcester, Wasps and Irish could restart in the Championship if they can deliver a compelling business case.
The earliest Irish could return to English rugby’s second tier would be the 2025-26 season, but a whole host of issues would need to be solved for that to happen.
