Passengers using Gatwick airport will no longer need to remove electrical items or place liquids in plastic bag when going through security.
The London airport said passengers could now leave liquids and electronics, such as laptops, in their hand luggage as they go through the airport scanners.
Passengers will still need to keep any liquids to a maximum of 100ml, but they can stay in cabin bags rather than having to be removed and placed in clear plastic bags.
The change is thanks to the installation of new computed tomography (CT) 3D scanning machines, described as "cutting-edge technology" for airport security staff.
Cyrus Dana, head of security at Gatwick, said IT was a "positive change for passengers".
"More than 95% of passengers already pass through security at Gatwick in under five minutes," he added.
"As we continue to grow, our top priority is the safety of our passengers and the security of the airport.
"This cutting-edge technology ensures a safe and robust experience for our passengers."
Other UK airports, including London City, Luton, birmingham, Bristol, and Southend, have already introduced the liquid rule change.
A spokesperson for Gatwick warned passengers to be aware that many airports around the world have not yet introduced the new technology.
"Therefore, the one-litre clear plastic bag rule and 100ml liquid container limit may still apply when returning from other destinations," they said.
