Logan Paul recalls meeting with "big-beard badass" Khamzat Chimaev

Logan Paul has recalled the time he met UFC star Khamzat Chimaev in Sweden whilst recording an album.

Paul travelled to Sweden in 2019 to record an album which he would never release. The YouTuber visited the Allstars training centre in Stockholm during his trip, the home to several UFC fighters such as Alexander Gustafsson, Ilir Latifi and Chimaev.

At the time Chimaev had just five professional fights under his belt and was competing in Brave CF, an MMA promotion based in Bahrain. Paul distinctly remembers seeing Chimaev at the gym and said he looked like a "badass".

“I went to Sweden to train for a couple of weeks and I went to this gym," he said on The MMA Hour. "I looked over and there was this guy, kind of staring at me, big beard, looked like a badass.

"It was where [Alex] Gustafsson trained. Months later, this guy named Khamzat Chimaev is making an incredible UFC run and I’m like ‘oh my god, that was the guy that was mean mugging me at that one gym in the middle of Sweden, in Stockholm.’"

"I was there recording an album. I try a lot of s***, that's not coming out. My producer was there, a lot of amazing and very talented music producers are Swedish and this guy happened to be in Sweden. It's full-on singing, it's very bad."

Chimaev was signed to the UFC after picking up his sixth professional win. The Chechen was a breakout star in 2020 and broke records for the fastest consecutive wins and quickest three fight win streak in modern UFC history.

Paul said he sparred a few gym members at Allstars, but not Chimaev. 'Borz' recently welcomed Paul to a fight in the UFC but the 27-year-old, who has never fought in MMA before, said he would only be willing to box Chimaev.

"We showed up at the gym. I sparred a couple of their guys. They didn’t let me spar Khamzat, but yeah, he’s a f***ing dog! I’m not doing MMA with him, no way. I’d box him for sure. I’d be more than happy to box him but that’s the problem, all these UFC fighters are locked up. It’s hard to get a fight with any of them," Paul added.

After just four fights in the promotion, Chimaev could be next in line for a title shot if he gets past No.2 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns this Saturday at UFC 273.
