Lockleaze man sentenced for historic sex abuse of teen

A Lockleaze man admitted historic sexual abuse of a teenage girl. And he has been sentenced in accordance with how he would have been dealt with as a teenager himself.

Cameron Caines, 23, of Romney Avenue, pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault. He appeared before Bristol Crown Court for sentence.

Judge Michael Cullum handed him an 18-month community order. He told Caines: "You prioritized your physical lust, you were not prepared to take 'no'.

The judge ordered Caines to pay £500 court costs. He was told to register his whereabouts to police for five years, was barred from working with children and vulnerable adults, carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and up to 35 days of rehabilitation.

Nikki Coombe, prosecuting via video link, said Caines ignored the complainant's plea to stop sexual activity. He then subjected her to a sexual assault which injured her.

Kannan Siva, defending, said his client committed the offence as a young person of previous good character. He said on that basis the court should avoid immediate custody if possible.

Mr Siva told the court: "He was open in acknowledging he prioritized his own desires."
