Lockerbie’s Riding of the Marches and Gala day celebrations have been hailed a huge success.
This year there was a bumper number of cash prizes and awards for the gala parade which produced a fantastic show for the residents and visitors who lined the town’s streets to see them.
The Best in Parade £300 was awarded to the RH Youth Organisation and stalwarts RLM took the £100 prize and De Luca Cup for Most Entertaining.
The Tally Johnstone Memorial Cup for Most Creative in the parade went to The Lodge Arts Collective.
A £100 prize also went to Motiv8 who also took home the Masonic Cup (best under 16), as well Best walkers – Lockerbie Nursery, and Highly Commended – Lockerbie Christmas Lights Committee.
The Dod Gass Trophy for Most Entertaining Individual with £100 prize was awarded to Lleyton and Aejay Mackay.
Led by Cornet Cameron Shaw, Cornet’s Lass Tammy McGuinness and Standard Bearer Gary Berridge, the day began with the 8.15am Crying of the Fair.
The principals checked the boundaries and were joined by a horse cavalcade who enjoyed the chases.
Prize for these were presented at the war memorial in the evening and went to: Best Turned Out 2022, senior: Tonie Bell on Maisie and junior - Molly Stoddart on Crackers. Best lead rein - Gaby Bell on Mia
The Chase winners were: under 12 - Tara Kane; under 15 - Summer Hyslop; Cornet’s Lass - Maggie Kane; Cornet’s - Aidey Kane; open junior - Bree Fletcher and open senior - Hilda McLanachan.
The cavalcade met up with the colourful gala parade of floats, walkers and bands led by Gala Queen Caitlin Jardine and her royal retinue of senior attendants, Lotti Murray, Evie Nicholson and Ruby Pagan; junior attendant, Keirissy Cloy Gray, Imogen Cowan, Quinn Green and Nina Smith; flower girl Charley McBeth and page boy Harry Carruthers.
Also Miss Valentine 2022, Lily McLaughlin, who was driven around in style in The Love Bug D&G’s VW Bonnie by owner, Linnie Oliphant.
