Lockerbie residents given chance to have their say on plans for town's parks

Lockerbie residents were this week invited to have their say on proposals for new community facilities at McJerrow Park and King Edward Park.

A bandstand, paddling pool, memorial cairn, and outdoor gym are some of the park development ideas put forward that could benefit locals.

The Lockerbie Trust held a public engagement event all day on Wednesday at Lockerbie Town Hall where people could drop in, fill in a questionnaire, and share their views on funding additional facilities at McJerrow Park and King Edward Park.

The plans were shared with Lockerbie community groups at the town’s ice rink and are now part of a wider public engagement process to see how the council can take forward the best options.

The memorial cairn, bandstand, paddling pool and gym equipment could potentially be coming to McJerrow Park.

There has also been talk of a MUGA (multi-use games area) for kids, but because some of the previously discussed ideas have changed further consultation is needed.

And with McJerrow Park and King Edward Park both having Common Good status, a community consultation is essential.

Council leader Gail Macgregor recently met with Lockerbie community councillors and stressed the importance of properly consulting with the local residents to get a wide range of views before any firm decisions are made.
