Locked Up: The killer arsonist, vigilante murderer, naked attacker and other criminals jailed in March

It is time for our monthly round-up of some of the criminals locked up in Wales in the past month.

This month they include three men who killed a father-to-be in a what was described in court as a "brutal murder", a mum whose daughter drowned in the bath while she was on the phone, and a man who killed a child killer by stabbing him 26 times with a screwdriver.

Here are their faces and their crimes.

Ieuan Harley

Ieuan Harley was sentenced to life for the murder of David Gaut (Gwent Police)

He was jailed for life for the brutal murder of child killer David Gaut, who was stabbed 26 times with a screwdriver after neighbours discovered the truth about his past.

The 23-year-old, who does not have a fixed address, killed Mr Gaut after learning the ex-convict had served more than 32 years behind bars for murdering a child.

Mr Justice Clive Lewis sentenced Harley to life with a minimum term of 24 years.

The pair were jailed alongside Harley for covering up the murder of child killer David Gaut.

They were both sentenced for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The three were jailed for life for the "brazen, vicious and brutal" murder of a young father-to-be.

Lynford Brewster, 29, was stabbed to death in broad daylight when his killers left him in a pool of blood on the ground.

The three were convicted of his murder after a retrial and have each been jailed for life.

Sarah Morris

The mum was sentenced to three years in prison after her baby daughter drowned when she was left unattended in the bath.

Jurors had heard Rosie was 13 months old and in the bath with her twin when she was left alone for “prolonged periods” and she drowned at Morris’ then home in Greenfield, Flintshire .

The court heard Morris was on the phone to her then partner Sarah Swindles for almost 50 minutes while toddler Rosie was in the bath.

David Bundock

Former head teacher David Bundock has been jailed for 27 months after he admitted attempting to sexually communicate with a child and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming as well as four counts of possessing indecent images of children (South Wales Police)

The former primary school head teacher, who was awarded an MBE for services to education, was caught by paedophile hunters trying to meet a 15-year-old boy.

Bundock, who was recognised for his work by the Queen in 2004, was caught in a sting after exchanging lurid messages on Grindr with an account purportedly belonging to an underage boy.

Damion Harris

The arsonist was jailed for 16 years after setting fire to a hotel in Aberystwyth.

Drunk 31-year-old Harris was venting his frustration after a woman at a nightclub had spurned him. He set fire to a cupboard full of linen, engulfing the hotel in flames, killing one man, and causing £5m of damage.

Michael Samuel

The drug dealer tried to hide his stash of cannabis from the police by putting it down his pants – but the smell gave him away.

Samuel was in the back of a police vehicle as the smell grew stronger and stronger and eventually admitted he had stuffed the Class B drug in his underwear.

Luke Prole

Luke Prole was jailed for a year (Gwent Police)

The delivery driver knocked a pubgoer out cold with a single punch and left him with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

Prole walked out of the Castle Hotel in Blaenavon following the assault and left his victim George Edwards lying unconscious on the floor by the pool table.

Wayne Owen

A judge told Wayne Philip Morgan Owen there is 'something curious going on your mind' (South Wales Police)

He set fire to a large commercial bin outside a pub but claimed he was doing a "public service".

Owen set fire to waste at the rear of the pub as the landlord, his wife and baby slept in a flat above.

The first the family knew about the fire was when firefighters turned up.

Gary James

The unemployed benefits claimant's home was raided by police after they suspected he may be a drug dealer because of messages he'd sent on Facebook.

James, 32, was wearing an expensive Tag Heuer watch when officers arrived at his  Bridgend home in January,  Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Don Staple

The expectant dad faces missing the birth of his child after being caught with a cannabis factory producing drugs worth £37,000 at his home.

Staple's then-home in System Street in Adamsdown in Cardiff  was raided by South Wales Police officers on October 12 last year, a court heard.

The sex offender who assaulted young girls over a period of more than 20 years was locked up.

Brian Gorrigan

The prolific thief threatened a terrified cashier with a hypodermic needle when she tried to stop him from walking out of a Newport supermarket without paying.

Gorrigan pulled the needle out of his jacket and told the shop worker he would stab her when she took hold of his basket as he attempted to leave.

Brandon Hughes

The teenager was locked up after committing a lewd act while peering through the window of a woman’s home.

Hughes was seen by neighbours acting furtively in the vicinity of the house in Denbigh in January this year. He had his trousers around his knees and was looking into the house.

Nicola Carlisle

Carlisle attacked her seriously ill mother in her own home, subjecting her to a "vicious and barbaric" beating.

For an hour she repeatedly punched the pensioner to the face, head and body, pulled her hair, and sunk her teeth into her, leaving her victim covered in bruises and with a fractured wrist.

Miles Bishop

The crime gang member who stole luxury cars from driveways was jailed after he fled the UK mid-trial more than a year ago.

The 35-year-old went on the run to Dubai and Russia before he was eventually detained in Spain.

Davies, 18, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were detained after going on a crime spree armed with knives and screwdrivers.

They robbed one woman of her car and attempted to steal another two cars in the space of a few hours.

Peter Maddock

Peter Maddock, 40, of Gwenfro, Wrexham, admitted possessing cocaine, supplying cocaine, being concerned in the supply of cocaine and possessing cash as criminal property (North Wales Police)

The cocaine dealer's stash of drugs had such high purity levels that it had to be "cut" before it was sold or it "would kill".

Maddock, 40, of Gwenfro, Wrexham was caught after police became suspicious when they saw his car pull up outside The Acton pub last August.

Aaron Pollard

Aaron Pollard, 23, of Gorseinon, Swansea, has been jailed for 27 months after pleading guilty to sexual activity with a child (South Wales Police)

Aaron Pollard, 23, of Gorseinon in Swansea, pleaded guilty at Swansea Crown Court to sexual activity with a child.

Pollard was jailed for 27 months and a restraining order was made against him contacting the victim for 10 years.

He must sign the sex offenders' register and a sexual offences prevention order was also made.

Keegan Doyle

Keegan Doyle, 23, of Warren Drive, Broughton, was jailed for seriously injuring 10-year-old Alfie Watts in a hit and run (North Wales Police)

The hit-and-run driver left a 10-year-old boy in a coma then told police he'd "done nothing wrong except for hitting a kid on a bike".

The 23-year-old ran over Alfie Watts as the youngster played on his bike near his home. He had been in the park with his friend but when they realised they'd left their jackets in the park they went back to get them.

The little boy was thrown into the air and Doyle did not even slow down, let alone stop, as he drove away doing 60mph in a 30mph residential zone.

Alan Griffin

Alan Griffin has twice been convicted for assaulting children (South Wales Police)

The “abusive” man assaulted a 15-month-old baby boy, leaving him with angry red marks and bruises, while the infant’s mother was visiting a relative in hospital.

Griffin – who previously bit a 13-month-old child – was trusted to look after the toddler while his then-partner and the child’s mother went to see her own mum in hospital following an operation.

Dylan Forbes

Forbes subjected an ex-partner to repeated assaults and threats.

He breached a restraining order designed to protect the woman numerous times over the Christmas and New Year period and a judge described his behaviour as “coercive and controlling”.

The young father pulled a fearsome 10in hunting knife from his jacket to show it off to friends – only for police to spot the deadly weapon.

The 20-year-old was walking with a group of men in Newport city centre on February 4 when he took the bladed weapon from his jacket pocket.

Paul Defraine

Paul Defraine, 46, from Merthyr Tydfil, was jailed for five years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a child (South Wales Police)

The former actor who was known for his portrayal of a music-loving Mod has been jailed for sexually assaulting a child.

Paul Defraine, 46, faced trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court charged with eight counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 16.

He denied the accusations but he was found guilty of five counts of sexual assault and not guilty of three counts.

Laura Evans

Laura Joan Evans was sentenced to four months in prison for smuggling Spice into HMP Swansea inside a Kinder egg (South Wales Police)

The would-be hairdresser smuggled so-called “green crack” into prison hidden in a Kinder egg concealed inside her body.

The contraband was found after eagle-eyed staff spotted the handover taking place during a visit.

Ryan Thomas and Ethan O'Brien

Thomas instigated a street brawl where an axe, golf clubs, and planks of wood were used after telling a man to leave his girlfriend alone.

Co-defendant Ethan O'Brien, then 18, became involved in the attack in Cardiff with their friends on a group of older men who were walking home from a 50th birthday party.

Kieran Hemsley and Neil Abbott

The two friends drunkenly attacked a man they had been drinking with by punching and kicking him in the head.

They had been drinking in Bridgend on February 13 last year when they became involved in an argument with Gareth Farmer at a friend’s house.

Aled Gray

Aled Gray, 35, of Holyhead has been jailed for 10 years for his part in a drug conspiracy felled by Operation Zeus (North Wales Police)

Gray was the leader of a drugs gang who sought to control the heroin and cocaine market across a large part of Wales.

The pub owner admitted conspiring to supply both Class A drugs and was sent down alongside another 26 conspirators.

Liza Williams

Williams was "completely naked" when she smashed a police officer's head into a mirror and pulled out clumps of her hair after the officer had asked her to put some clothes on.

She shattered the mirror as she slammed PC Michaela Beck’s head into the glass and punched her colleague PC Alison Thomas before bashing her head against a heated oven.

Anthony Coslett

Anthony Coslett, 47, was seen slapping his victim and striking her in the face with a bag of cans (South Wales Police)

The woman-beater who failed to turn up to court after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend was seen attacking her in the street the next day.

Coslett, 47, was in a “friend with benefits” relationship with Melanie John when the assaults took place, a court heard.

Robert Bolton

Described as a "committed paedophile", the dad of six asked a 13-year-old girl to send him a 'boyfriend' card for Valentine's Day.

The court heard he went looking for young girls online just weeks after getting out of prison for previous child sex offences.

Leon Hart

Leon Hart armed himself with a machete and attacked his next door neighbour in a dispute about fishing tackle (South Wales Police)

Armed with a machete he attacked his neighbour following a falling out over fishing tackle and bait.

The victim needed stitches to wounds on his ear and his hand following the attack.

Premsaran Patel

He and his partner pretended they had well-paid jobs and provided fake payslips and various other forged documents to get loans worth tens of thousands of pounds.

Patel, who was not working at the time, claimed he was earning £42,000 a year as a Post Office manager and Smurti Amin claimed she was earning more than £70,000.

Junior Renford

Junior Renford was part of a 'county lines' drug dealing operation from London to west Wales (Dyfed-Powys Police)

He was jailed after two children were found in a Welsh drug den after being trafficked to Wales from London.

A boy aged 17 and a girl aged just 15 were found when police swooped on a house looking for a drug dealer.

The young girl had a stash of heroin and cocaine hidden in an intimate part of her body.

Benjamin Ambrose

The amateur boxer knocked out a man in a Cardiff nightclub after punching him in an unprovoked attack.

Ambrose, 30, unleashed a vicious assault on Lance White in Soda in Mill Lane on September 30 last year after the victim accused him of spilling a drink on him.

£2m cocaine gang

A drugs gang responsible for circulating £2m of cocaine were locked up for a combined 68 years.

The eight gang members were responsible for bringing in and distributing £2m of the Class A drug throughout Newport and the surrounding areas.

These were the first half of a 16-strong group of defendants who were investigated for almost two years as part of Operation Finch. The remaining gang members will be sentenced in April.

They were arrested in June last year after a series of raids which involved more than 120 officers in the Maindee and Alway areas of Newport.

The dad-to-be was locked up for putting false plates on his car before stealing diesel from garages to earn money for his new baby.

Rowles hit three petrol stations in Swansea in quick succession, using cans in the back of his Audi to take more than £180 of fuel.

He threatened to "take the side of their faces off" after they accused him of stealing a van.

Elyshia Whiting

She hit a shopkeeper and kicked store shelves while using racially abusive language following an argument about the price of a packet of crisps.

Whiting had to be restrained after striking the proprietor on his shoulder and producing a pair of scissors during the incident witnessed by schoolchildren at a Premier Stores in Cardiff.

Meshaq Saunders

Meshaq Saunders was sent to Swansea by a London gang to sell heroin and cocaine (South Wales Police)

 

Saunders, who posed next to a huge pile of cash in pictures found by police on his mobile phone, was caught with a three-month list of sales totalling £11,000.

He was sent to Swansea by a criminal gang to continue selling heroin and cocaine on the streets when he was wanted by police in London.

The 20-year-old fled the capital after he was identified by an undercover operation and police raided his flat.

Joshua Stratford

Joshua Stratford, 26, was jailed after being found with £100,000 worth of cocaine when he was pulled over by police (South Wales Police)

The drug dealer was found with packages of cocaine worth £100,000 and £13,000 in cash when police stopped him while driving for a spot check.

Joshua Stratford, 26, also had Class A drugs stashed in his ex-partner's home in Cardiff.

Mark Edwards

"Perfect gentleman" Mark Edwards was seen as kind and attentive by new partner Lisa Thomas – until he launched a terrifying knife attack.

The 53-year-old had previously been jailed for life after stabbing his ex-wife's new partner to death.

Drug gang

Seventeen people have been jailed and another four given suspended prison terms after police smashed an organised criminal gang that was supplying heroin on the streets of Llanelli.

The eight-month-long Dyfed-Powys Police operation targeted those involved in the sourcing, trafficking, storage, preparation and dealing of the Class A drug.
