'Locked in talks' - Yang to Celtic transfer latest as Gangwon to 'reassess offer'

Yang Hyun-jun is reportedly locked in talks with Gangwon chiefs over a transfer move to Celtic.

It's claimed the South Korean winger is desperate to make the move to Celtic this summer but has so far been denied the chance by his club.

However, Sky Sports' Anthony Joseph reports that Gangwon are in talks with Yang as the player seeks to "engineer" a switch to Celtic.

Yang has been open in his desire to make the jump to European football at Celtic and it's now thought Gangwon will "reassess" the offer from the Parkhead club.

Previous reports stated Gangwon's desire to hang onto Yang until their K-League safety was secured with a winter transfer a possible exit route.

However, Yang has remained keen on a transfer in the summer to Celtic with the player even offering to sacrifice part of his salary to seal the deal.

He said: “If the transfer fee isn’t enough, I’ll even give my own salary. I hope Gangwon will allow me to transfer.

“My father and agent have asked for a meeting for a several times, but CEO Kim Byung-Ji is not giving time. It is not an easy opportunity to get an offer in Europe.

“I really want to go out this time. My colleagues and seniors from other teams also tell me to go to Europe, I don’t think about staying in Gangwon right now.”

On a move to Europe in the summer over waiting until the winter, Yang added: "Europe is said to be easier to adapt to in the summer. Of course, the team is in a difficult situation, but when an offer came from the United States last season, the goal was to go to Europe.

"So I didn't go to America and stayed with the team. Also, if an offer comes from Europe, the club said they would actively help.

"Celtic is a good offer, so I want to go. I have to do my best as a member of Gangwon. But I think the desire to go will still be there."
