An excellent sum of almost £5,000 was raised by a group of golfing friends in support of breast cancer care at Dumfries Infirmary.
Over the past 13 years, four Lochmaben Golf Club Members who named themselves The Pink Ladies raised around £60,000 for the important cause.
Jackie Bell, Jane Reid, Patricia Jardine and Gail Graham are “proud” of their achievement and already planning next year’s event.
Organiser Jackie said: “It was a fantastic day. It was great to see so many people at the golf course competing.
“This year we were delighted that Julie White, Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership Chief Officer, was able to come and accept the check on behalf of the hospital. It was very nice to have her at the event.
“It takes a lot of effort to organise it but we are thankful for the continued support from Lochmaben Golf Club, committee members, our family and friends. We are looking forward to organising it again next year.”
Mrs White said: “I was delighted to attend the Pink Day at Lochmaben Golf Club and to receive a cheque for £4945 on behalf of the Breast Cancer Endowment Fund.
“This money goes to support women with breast cancer in Dumfries and Galloway and the team who provide care and support to them.
“Everyone who plays a role in this fantastic fund-raising event is deserving full credit for what they have helped to accomplish.
“It is fantastic to receive such support from our local community and we look forward to being part of the event again next year.”
The event took place on July 2 when a total of 50 teams took part. The winners were Diane MacDonald, Sheila McMurtrie, Les Douglas and Joy McClure who returned a score of 56.
It was followed by a raffle, a variety of games and everyone was able to purchase home bakery.
Lochmaben Golf Club captain Mark Nicholson said: “It was a fantastic day at the club. Jackie, Jane, Patricia and Gail, as well as all the volunteers behind it, did an amazing job.
“It is one of the events that the club is exceptionally proud of and we are hoping to continue this for many years.”
