An eggs-tra special fundraising challenge by parents has raised enough money to give the whole of Locharbriggs Primary a free summer trip.
An end of year day out is a mainstay of schools across the region but the cost-of-living crisis means it can be hard on the already stretched purse strings of families – especially if they have more than one child to shell out for.
Not wanting their schoolchildren to miss out on the annual treat, Locharbriggs headteacher, Barry McIntyre and parent council members enlisted the help of the Wallamhill Road school’s nearest Tesco store where manager Tommy Stevenson was keen to help.
Vivien McClure and Gemma Geibler from the parent council said: “We created three wonderful hampers for Easter and Tesco Heathhall has kindly sold tickets over the past four weeks.
“The amazing staff at Heathhall have encouraged customers to participate and we have raised more than £700 for the children of Locharbriggs Primary and Nursery.”
It now means the school can enjoy a day at Mabie Farm Park in June with coaches provided by Houston’s – with no cost to families.
Headteacher Mr McIntyre said: “In these times of financial challenge we have been keen to organise a whole school outing without any cost to families.
“Thanks to the good will and fundraising from our parent council in conjunction with Tesco Heathhall – who have been amazing – we can provide a wonderful opportunity for our school community. I am grateful for the efforts from parents and local businesses as we raise funds. As part of the anti-poverty strategy here at Locharbriggs Primary School, we take steps to reduce costs to families.
“I am incredibly lucky to have such an amazing group of parents supporting my school.”
The Heathhall store’s manager, Mr Stevenson, said: “Always pleased to support the local community and it has a pleasure to raise funds to support the local primary school Locharbriggs.
