Loch Ness cruise company owned by same family for over 50 years up for sale for first time

A Loch Ness cruise company which has been owned by the same family for 54 years has gone on sale for the first time.

Sellers Savills is marketing a 100 per cent stake in Cruise Loch Ness, based on one of the most famous bodies of water in the world.

It has been run by the same family since 1968, when they started out with an ex RNLI lifeboat that carried 12 passengers.

But they now have a fleet of four vessels including flagship, The Spirit of Loch Ness, which carries 210 passengers.

Another boat, The Legend of Loch Ness, has capacity for 108 passengers, while two rigid inflatable boats provide a more exhilarating experience carrying 12 people each.

Savills said it was a rare opportunity to purchase the award-winning visitor attraction and they expect 'significant interest'.

Loch Ness attracts thousands of global tourists each year enticed by the legend of Nessie, and the beauty and history of the area.

Cruise Loch Ness is located to the south of Loch Ness where the loch interconnects with the Caledonian Canal in the village of Fort Augustus.

The business has won multiple awards, including being named the national winner of the 2019 Best Visitor Attraction in Scotland in the Scottish Thistle Awards.

Savills said Loch Ness cruises are the main attraction in the area and that the business continues to be one of the leading tourist attractions in Scotland.

To keep up with increasing demand, the family purchased the bespoke designed Spirit of Loch Ness for £1.55 million in 2018.

The firm has chartered private hire for celebrities including Sir Billy Connolly who invited Hollywood friends Robin Williams, Ewan McGregor, Steve Buscemi, on board.

Richard Prestwich, director in the leisure and trade related team at Savills, said: "This is an extremely rare opportunity and the first time this business has been taken to the market.

"The highly reputable, award-winning visitor attraction is in a world-renowned location and has strong credentials with a proven track record.

"It is recognised as one of the leading tourist attractions in Scotland and we expect significant interest."
