Locals surprised as 'awesome' Nottingham pub is put on the market

Locals are hoping that the place they describe as a lovely spot with great food and drink will be saved by a new operator. Residents in Sherwood were surprised to see a 'lease this pub' sign put up outside the Crafty Teller since it's so popular.

The pub, in Mansfield Road, was opened by Anthony Dowling in 2018 after a £225,000 makeover to transform it into a plush family-friendly bar and kitchen. It had previously been Finnbars, an Irish bar with live bands, karaoke and disco nights

The contemporary-style pub serves barista-style coffee, cocktails, craft ales and food, from breakfasts and burgers to Sunday roasts. The decor is a talking point too with neon signs and cool artwork by Cornish graffiti artist Sketch including chimpanzees.

Twenty four hours after the sign was put up by Star Pubs & Bars, the Crafty Teller team made an announcement on its Facebook page, saying: "It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to put the Crafty Teller up to let. The last few years have been difficult for everyone and we have decided to change our lifestyle and give ourselves a bit of a much needed rest.

"We can assure you that the venue will continue to trade and will remain a part of the Sherwood high street and the new owners will be sure to keep the venue an awesome place to visit. We won’t be leaving just yet so please continue visiting us, as we aim to continue to give you the best service as always and have lots of amazing offers available for you."

People on the Sherwood high street gave their thoughts on the news. Ola Burns, 32, a full-time mum from Sherwood, said: "It's nice to know it's not closing down, it's a nice place and people always go here. All the local and independent businesses in Sherwood are friendly, it would be a shame to see this close. Hopefully, with new operators not much changes - I've been in a few times."

Lottie Chambers, a 24-year-old student nurse who lives in Sherwood, said: "I've been in here a few times, the staff are lovely and it's a nice atmosphere. It is a bit pricy though. The Robin Hood isn't really my scene but it's cheaper and there's the Samuel Hall that's cheaper too. I'm glad it's not closing down because it is popular."
