A POPULAR Edinburgh cafe and restaurant has announced that it will close for good in 10 days’ time.
Honeycomb and Co, on Merchiston Place in the Bruntsfield area of the capital, said in a post on Instagram that its last day of trading will be on Sunday, January 19.
However, no jobs will be lost as all staff will transfer to work for the site's new owners.
Honeycomb and Co said in a statement on Thursday morning: “Starting the day with some news – Ian D’Annunzio-Green (our ‘Master of the Hive’) has decided it’s time to retire from Honeycomb and Co, and as a result our buzzy cafe will close on Sunday January 19, 2025.
“We're delighted to say that the business has been bought by the brilliant Peter and Steph Borgen-Nielsen of The Hula Group, who will re-open the premises as Pantry Edinburgh, after a short break to get things set up here in Bruntsfield.
“Many of you will already be regulars at Pantry Stockbridge and the Hula Juice bars in the Grassmarket and Fountainbridge.
“Our wonderful team of busy bees will make the move to become employees of Pantry and will be looking forward to welcoming familiar faces once the doors re-open.
“We can’t thank you all enough for your support since we launched back in 2017 – we hope to see as many of you as possible over the next couple of weeks and will be bringing some Honeycomb and Co classics back to the menu for one last time!”
On Instagram, other users responded to express their dismay at the closure.
"Well there goes our favourite brunch in the UK," one user wrote.
"You will be missed. Amazing food, wonderful staff and the right atmosphere," a second added.
A third wrote: "Nooooooooooo!!!!! Literally heart broken here! Oh how we loved your unique atmosphere and delicious food. So so sad."
Steph Nielsen, from the Hula Group, told the Edinburgh Evening News: “We are honoured to take over such a cherished part of the community.
“Ian and his team have created something truly special and we’re excited to continue that legacy as Pantry. At Pantry, we’re all about amazing fresh food and creating spaces where people feel welcome and have a great experience.
“We’re delighted to welcome the Honeycomb and Co team into the Pantry family and look forward to working with them to bring our signature brunch and coffee experience to Bruntsfield.
“To Honeycomb’s loyal customers – we can’t wait to meet you and continue the warm, vibrant atmosphere you love."
