A MUCH-LOVED bookshop and cafe in Edinburgh is set to close, as locals say they are “gutted” at the news.
The popular Tills & Company venue has gone up for sale, just one year after opening on Portobello High Street in the Scottish capital.
Located just a few minutes from the beach Tills & Company is best known for selling second-hand books as well as an assortment of coffee and cakes.
The business also regularly hosts community events, talks and crafts.
It is the sister shop of Tills Bookshop, located in Newington, which was established in 1985.
A listing for the venue on RightBiz says the sale presents a “rare opportunity” to acquire a “unique coffee shop combined with a second-hand bookshop” in the centre of a “popular and affluent suburb”.
The listing states the venue is open to offers of £69,000 but the name Tills & Company, is not part of the sale.
Reacting to the news one local said they will be sad to see Tills & Company close, with another saying they are “gutted”.
A third said: “I'm really hoping whoever buys the premises keeps it as a bookshop and cafe.
“I've loved going there to browse the book and the cafe has a real sense of community, with lots of residents using it as a meeting place.”
