Labour suffered several defeats in Newcastle on local election day 2023, but remains the dominant political force in the city.
The ruling party lost to the Lib Dems in the wards of West Fenham and North Jesmond. Meanwhile, the Newcastle Independents party enjoyed success in the ward of Lemington and in Denton and Westerhope – but dropped one seat to Labour in Callerton and Throckley.
The Conservative Party's wait for a ballot box victory in Newcastle stretches beyond 31 years, with Gosforth candidate Doc Anand unable to claim what would have been a first success since 1992.
