The North East has had its say as it went to the polls to vote in the 2022 local elections.
Five local authorities in our region are taking part in the elections this year - Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Tyneside and South Tyneside. Gateshead will be counting its results on Friday.
Northumberland and County Durham wards are contested all at once every four years so voters did not go to the polls in those two counties this time.

The elections came after the Partygate scandal facing Conservative leader and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has been fined for holding gatherings during Covid lockdowns.
Labour managed to hold on to overall control in the five councils, although some gains were made in seats across the region by the Greens, Lib Dems and Independent candidates.
