A local Drum Brae/Gyle ward councillor has expressed their concern at the level of flytipping across in his constituency and suspects that Holyrood cuts are behind the problem.
Conservative councillor Mark Brown shared several images of flytipping in both the Drum Brae and East Craigs areas of West Edinburgh on his Twitter feed.
The local politician captured several images with a constant theme appearing to be old mattresses that have been abandoned at communal bins.
Alongside this you can spot a computer chair, a door and what appears to be some insulation as well as pallets.
The councillor says that he does not know what the answer is to solving the problem but says that he fears Holyrood cuts to council budgets could be impacting the problem in the capital.
He also commended local community groups for tackling the problem after being left with no choice.
On the issue, he said: “I find it very difficult to believe that Drum Brae Gyle has the second lowest for reports of littering and flytipping in the capital.
“But then maybe it is due to having a few groups in the community that have said ‘enough is enough’ and have taken matters into their own hands to clean up the area.
“I do not know what the answer is but the cuts to the local council’s budget from Holyrood are having an impact as the council is having to salami slice their resources - it is having an impact on streets at the local level.
“We need resources to look at prevention and not just a cure.”
Edinburgh City Council were contacted for comment.
