Tyrell Malacia's loan switch to Benfica has collapsed amid reported Celtic interest.
The Manchester United full-back was expected to leave Old Trafford to join the Portuguese side before the transfer deadline.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the defender will not join Benfica with the loan deal off.
Reports in the Daily Mail suggested Malacia was viewed as a possible transfer alternative to Kieran Tierney for Celtic during the winter window.
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Tierney will join Celtic in the summer but it's thought a loan deal before the pre-contract switch is unlikely with Arsenal to keep hold of the Scotland internationalist.

Celtic lost Alex Valle after his loan was terminated to allow the defender to join Como, meaning they are light in the left-back position with out-of-contract Greg Taylor first choice in the position.
Transfer specialist Romano has suggested Malacia will still leave Manchester United before the end of the window with Celtic a possible destination after links.
He posted on X: "Manchester United still expect Tyrell Malacia to leave before Monday night Deadline.
"Benfica deal OFF, more options being explored on loan."
