Lo Celso's new role, Ndombele claim, Parrott assist and Etete praised in Tottenham loan latest

Tottenham now have a host of players playing elsewhere on loan following a busy January in the transfer market at the club.

Already seeing the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Troy Parrott moving on during the summer window on temporary deals, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil all added to the numbers after deadline day exits with game time limited for them in the capital.

Alfie Whiteman was the latest to depart earlier this month after returning to Sweden to link up with Degerfors once again.

The shot-stopper will play friendlies and enjoy a pre-season before this year's Allsvenskan campaign begins on April 9.

So how exactly did the Spurs loanees get on over the past week? football.london takes a look at all of Tottenham's loan players.

Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon)

Ndombele has made quite the impact at Lyon since returning to his former club on transfer deadline day.

Making an impression off the bench in his first game back away at Monaco, the Frenchman was then at his best the following week as they beat Nice 2-0.

Earning a score of eight for his performance in L'Equipe's notoriously harsh player ratings, Ndombele wowed in the victory at the Groupama Stadium and duly registered an assist for Karl Toko Ekambi's strike.

Starting again away at Lens on Saturday, the Spurs loanee played the full 90 minutes but couldn't inspire his team to victory as they left with a point following a 1-1 draw.

Speaking to Lyon's official website after the game, Ndombele discussed the result and also claimed that he is still not 100 per cent yet as he looks to rediscover his top form back in his home country.

“We are frustrated not to have taken all three points," he said. "The game was challenging. Lens are a very good team. We cannot be completely satisfied.

"We will keep working. We have a week ahead of us to be able to have a good match against Lille... I'm not at 100% yet but I'm trying to give my best."

Bryan Gil (Valencia)

Gil is also another to have really caught the eye since departing Tottenham on loan in the January transfer window.

Wowing Valencia fans in his first four games for the club, including on his debut in their Copa del Rey win over Cadiz, he was handed his fifth appearance on Sunday as they lost 4-1 against Barcelona.

Given a breather in the league last time out before coming off the bench at half-time away at Alaves, the 21-year-old was named in the XI to take on Barca and played the full 90 minutes.

Trailing 3-0 at half-time, Gil did give the hosts some hope seven minutes after the restart after teeing up Carlos Soler with a stunning cross from the left that his Valencia teammate expertly headed home.

"It's a tough day. In the first half we conceded three goals, and that's difficult to overcome, but in the second half we went for it with everything, and we wanted to win the game. They scored too soon after our goal," he told Valencia's official website after the defeat.

"When you concede three goals in the first half it's difficult to come back from."

He added: "The assist counts, but we lost the game. It's more important to win."

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

Whereas Gil was on the losing side in La Liga, fellow Tottenham man Lo Celso tasted victory with Villarreal registering an emphatic 4-1 win away at Granada.

Playing in a more attacking role than he did at Spurs after starting as a second striker, a role he played in with Real Betis previously, the Argentine came in for plenty of praise from the Spanish press for what he did in his 69 minutes on the pitch.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Lo Celso delivered a "great performance" and that he demonstrated "tremendous" passing ability in the final third to cause problems for the hosts.

Juventus are next up for Lo Celso and Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, a game he will be available for after he was registered in the Yellow Submarines' European squad.

Pape Matar Sarr (Metz)

Metz picked up a valuable point in their fight to stay in Ligue 1 with a 0-0 draw away at Lille on Friday evening.

Named on the bench for last weekend's 2-1 defeat against Marseille, Sarr once again had to settle for a place among the substitutes before coming on for the final minute of the contest.

In and out of the team since October, the Africa Cup of Nations winner will be hoping that his game time improves ahead of his return to Tottenham in the summer.

Sarr has one goal and one assist from his 21 games in all competitions for Metz this term.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

It proved to be a big day in the Scottish Premiership title race on Sunday with Celtic leaving it late to capitalise on Rangers dropping points at Dundee United.

Drawing 2-2 with Dundee at Parkhead heading into the final five minutes, Giorgos Giakoumakis completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute to give Celtic a three-point cushion at the top.

Carter-Vickers played the full 90 minutes in the contest, earning a score of six in the Scottish Daily Express' player ratings.

Following a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League last Thursday, Celtic have it all to do when they travel to Norway for the return leg this week.

Jack Clarke (Sunderland)

Clarke started on the bench at the weekend as Sunderland lost 2-1 at home to MK Dons in a huge game at the top of League One.

Trailing 1-0 courtesy of Mo Eisa's goal, the Spurs winger was introduced in the 56th minute and Sunderland soon found themselves on level terms three minutes later before the visitors clinched the win 15 minutes from time.

Clarke scored a six in Chronicle Live's player ratings with the review: "One or two glimpses of his skill when Sunderland were chasing the game."

The York-born player will be hoping a start comes his way on Tuesday evening when Burton Albion make the trip to the Stadium of Light.

Troy Parrott (MK Dons)

Clarke did in fact come up against Tottenham teammate Parrott during the game on Wearside.

The striker wasn't on the scoresheet for MK Dons but he did manage to play the full game and claim the vital assist to tee up Connor Wickham for the winner.

Parrot may not have scored since October for MK but manager Liam Manning is pleased with his contribution to the team and is sure goals will soon start to come for the Republic of Ireland international.

“(Troy) showed some moments of real quality today to contribute to the goals," he told the club's official website. "Troy wants to score goals, obviously, as any attacking player does but I think he's really matured in terms of the work he puts in out of possession and the honesty to track back and compete.

"If he he keeps doing that, then the goals will come, I've got no worries about that."

Nile John (Charlton Athletic)

John is still waiting to make his senior debut for Charlton following his January loan move from Tottenham.

An unused substitute last weekend in their 2-1 defeat away at Wigan, it was very much the case for him on Saturday as he could only watch on from the bench as the Addicks lost 4-0 at home to Oxford.

The youngster will have his fingers crossed that his chance arrives on Tuesday when Parrot and his MK Dons side make the trip to The Valley.

Kion Etete (Cheltenham Town)

Making a big impression in League Two with Northampton Town earlier in the season, Etete is now doing likewise in League One with Cheltenham.

Registering assists in the recent games against AFC Wimbledon and Sunderland after forcing his way into the starting XI, the striker netted his first goal for the Robins on Saturday in an incredible 5-5 draw away at Wycombe with a low strike that cannonned in off the post.

That wasn't his only contribution to the game, however, as he also set up Alfie May's second goal not long after half-time.

May was in the headlines for his four-goal heroics but Cheltenham boss Michael Duff also waxed lyrical about Etete after the game.

"Yes, really pleased," he told Gloucestershire Live. "I thought the pair of them, Alfie and Kion (Etete). I was pleased for Kion to get his goal because Alfie has eight in four now and Kion has had a direct hand in about five or six of them, so when you play with a pair, one is normally the foil. He was really good today.

"They roughed him up, or tried to and you only have to see the state of his shirt when he came off.

"Again, having an experienced player, chipping away at him all the time, but he stood up to it.

"We took him off after a whack to the hip, so hopefully that's not too bad."

Alfie Whiteman (Degerfors)

Whiteman has returned to Swedish side Degerfors on loan for the duration of the 2022 season.

His team were in Svenska Cupen action at the weekend as they claimed a 6-1 win away at Skiljebo but the goalkeeper wasn't available for the encounter.

Kacper Kurylowicz (Potters Bar Town)

The goalkeeper has headed out on loan to non-league side Potters Bar Town, who play in the Isthmian Premier League.

The 20-year-old was on the bench as they won 1-0 against Haringey Borough last Saturday but there was no game for them this weekend with storm damage seeing their home clash against Horsham postponed.

Potters Bar are back in action on Tuesday with Kingstonian making the trip to the LA Construction Stadium.
