LNER urges against travel on Friday as Storm Eunice set to cause travel chaos

With Storm Eunice set to batter the UK with severe winds, LNER is advising against travel on its services on Friday 18th February.

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place that day with gales of up to 70mph likely to cause traffic and travel disruption across the network.

LNER services most impacted by this warning are the ones in the southern parts of the route between York/Leeds and London King's Cross.

In a statement shared to its website, LNER said: 'Storm Eunice is expected to bring severe weather conditions across the UK on Friday 18 th February. Please do not travel on Friday 18 th February.

"Our services will be most impacted by the severe weather in the southern parts of our route (south of York/Leeds) and as a result we will be running a reduced service between London King’s Cross and York/Leeds. We expect these services to be extremely busy and subject to short notice cancellations and alterations. At present the weather is not forecast to affect our route north of York so we still plan to run services between York and Newcastle / Scotland. However, please check before you travel as this is subject to change at short notice. "Customers with tickets dated for travel on Friday 18 th February will be able to use these tickets to travel on Thursday 17 th February instead. We strongly advise you to reserve a seat before you travel, and please travel as close to the time shown on your original ticket as possible."

The statement added: "Please note that we highly recommend that you make a reservation before travelling. To make a reservation, please click here.

"If you're not able to travel on Thursday 17th February, you'll be entitled to a refund. Find out how to claim here. "
