Lizzo has opened up about her past insecurities, as she discussed the lack of body diversity in the music and fashion industries.
The singer, 34, revealed she used to feel "undesirable" and "ashamed" as she believed she didn't have the qualities needed to become a pop star.
While she is now full of confidence, she said she doesn't want to be seen as "the token big girl" in the fashion world.
Lizzo spoke to ELLE UK about the lack of body inclusivity and said: "I don't want to be the token big girl for the fashion world, I want to open the door."
She admitted to feeling insecure about her appearance when she first started out as a singer, saying every pop star she saw looked different to herself.
"Nearly every star I saw on stage was thinner and light-skinned, and they didn't look like me."
She added: "I wasn't really set up to believe that I was desirable, for me, being a pop star – part of it is people either want to be you or be with you."
Lizzo, who will appear on the front cover of ELLE UK's September addition, said she is thankful to have people who will make her outfits "from scratch", but said "chic" clothing should be available for people of all sizes.
Over the years, the rapper has been surrounding herself with people who think she is beautiful, which she cites as helping her confidence to grow.
While she once felt "ashamed", she now believes she is worthy of a successful career and said she creates music to help other people, rather than to become famous.
Lizzo's latest interview comes after she explained why she pledged $500,000 of the proceeds from her upcoming tour to Planned Parenthood.
Speaking on Monday's episode of Watch What Happens Live on Bravo, she said she wanted to take action and help others.
"I am about that action. When people need help and I have resources or can help people get resources, I'm going to do it," she said.
Concert promoter Live Nation has agreed to match Lizzo's pledge raising the amount to $1 million.
Lizzo made the announcement after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade last month.
