Lizzo has changed the lyrics in her new song after fans complained they were offensive.
The singer, 34, was forced to apologise after her latest offering Grrrls hit the airwaves.
Taking to Twitter, she said: "It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song GRRRLS.
"Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language."
The song originally contained a word which is known in the UK as being offensive to disabled people.
"Hold my bag/ Do you see this s**t?/ I’mma sp*z" was changed to: "Hold my bag/ Do you see this s**t? Hold me back."
Lizzo added: "As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally).
"I’m proud to say there’s a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change. This is the result of me listening and taking action. As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world."
Since changing her lyrics, Lizzo has been inundated with support from fans.
One posted: "‘Thank you. I knew you would!!! As the great Maya Angelou stated, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”. Thank you for being a role model for how to hear what others have said."
Another gushed: "She set the bar for accountability. Within three days she acknowledged the concerns of the disabled community and is rereleasing the song. I want it to be remembered that a Black woman set the precedent for what accountability should be."
Since bursting onto the scene with her hit song Good As Hell, Lizzo's career has gone stratospheric.
The star has such a following she even has a documentary with HBO in the pipeline.
In a statement shared by Rolling Stone, Lizzo gushed: "Growing up I never dreamed I’d get to experience all of the things I’ve accomplished in my life, and I’m just getting started.
"It takes 10 years to become an “overnight success,” and hopefully I can inspire other young creatives to keep going."
The singer will be the executive producer of the film, which is set to air in the autumn.
Meanwhile, her album Special drops on July 15.
