LIZ Truss, UK Foreign Secretary has stated that Boris Johnson has "made the right decision" by announcing his resignation.
She contiued to state that "calmness and unity" is needed as a new Prime Minister is selected.
Truss was one of the earliest ministers to state her support for Johnson after he survived a vote of confidence which saw 148 of his MPs turn against him. She previously stated that she supported him “100%”.
However, Truss has now been pegged by insiders to be “one to watch” as a potential candidate for the next PM. She has reportedly hosted social events to court fellow Tory MPs which have been termed "fizz with Liz" - although her allies claim this is not a term she herself uses.
The PM has made the right decision. The Government under Boris's leadership had many achievements - delivering Brexit, vaccines and backing Ukraine. We need calmness and unity now and to keep governing while a new leader is found.

First elected in 2010 as MP for South West Norfolk, Truss then went on to secure a series of cabinet positions including international trade secretary before securing her current role.
However, she has faced sharp criticism within her role – with Tony Brenton, former British ambassador to Moscow previously stating that Truss’ performance in Moscow “completed the process of the UK making itself irrelevant to serious diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis”.
Boris Johnson earlier announced his resignation, yet stated he will remain in post until Autumn despite facing sharp criticism.
