Liz Truss angers M People star by using Moving on Up as walk on music 'without permission'

M People star Mike Pickering has hit out Liz Truss, after the prime minister used the group's classic track Movin' On Up as her walk on music at the Conservative Party conference.

In a speech that was broadcast across the country from the event in Birmingham, the new PM, who has been in the high profile job for a month now, assured her fellow Tories and those watching at home that she 'had their back,' amidst mounting pressure for her to get to grips with the cost of living crisis.

While Teresa May infamously once sashayed onto stage to ABBA's Dancing Queen it was M People's 1994 iconic hit Movin on Up, the Brit winners' most famous songs, that Truss chose as her soundtrack as she prepared to address her packed audience, with the words 'Getting Britain Moving' behind her.

But the move has not gone down well with founding member Mike Pickering, who shot to fame in the group alongside fellow members like lead singer Heather Small. He took to Twitter just before lunchtime on Wednesday to post: "So apparently we can't stop Truss walking out to our song, very weird! So sad it got used by this shower of a government. BTW Truss labour used it with permission in 90's. I don't want my song being a soundtrack to lies."

He then returned to Twitter rto reply to a tweet featuring some of the lyrics of Movin On Up. The post read: "Lyrics to 'Moving On Up' are how the world and UK feel about Truss. 'You've done me wrong, your time is up You took a sip from the devil's cup You broke my heart, there's no way back Move right out of here, baby, go on pack your bags.'

Sharing it on his own timeline, Mike added: "i sincerely hope she listens to the lyrics."
