Livingston Women's youth team celebrate cup final success

Livingston Women’s under-16s are celebrating after being crowned SWF South East League Cup winners.

A fine performance against Spartans saw goals from Kara Sibbald, Fern Callander and a brace from Sophie Rutherford ensure the young Lionesses were comfortably ahead before a late fightback saw their opponents net twice in the closing stages.

However, Livi saw out the remainder of the contest to seal the deal and get their hands on the trophy.

Earlier this year, the side officially made the move from Blackburn United to be part of the Livingston Women’s pathway and barely six months later are celebrating trophy success.

A delighted coach Lee Boyce commented: “We are very proud of this group of girls. They played well and settled into the game to produce some excellent goals and good link-up play.

“A lot of these girls have been together as a team for a number of years, and it shows in how they support each other on and off the pitch.

“It is very much a team effort and Scott, Alan, Lesley and myself love working with this squad of talented players.”

He added: “It is also exciting to become the first Livingston Women’s youth team to claim some silverware and we are excited to see how these girls progress within the Livingston Women’s pathway”.

Nigel Thorpe, club secretary, commented: “It’s a great achievement for the girls and coaches. All at Livingston Women are very proud of them and look forward to watching their journey with the club progress.”
