Livingston somehow found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat at home to Ross County despite controlling large parts of the contest.
The Lions were ineffective in front of goal despite creating numerous chances - and were then undone by a defensive error 16 minutes from time.
Sean Kelly's loose header allowed Jordy Hiwula to bear down on goal with his strike bouncing back off the crossbar and Owura Edwards on hand to roll the ball into the net for the game's only goal.
The home side were boosted by a bumper crowd after having handed out over 4300 free tickets to the local community. While not all those were in attendance, it was still a sizeable and vocal home support.
And there was drama before a ball was even kicked at the Tony Macaroni Arena as one of the crossbars was cracked - leading to Lions gaffer David Martindale and staff trying to fix it before a spare set of goalposts were put in place.
Livi boss David Martindale elected to make two changes to the line-up following last week's loss at St Mirren with Cristian Montano and Andrew Shinnie being recalled at the expense of James Penrice and Stephane Omeonga.
Winger Dylan Bahamboula was proving to be a threat every time he was in possession and his play should have resulted in the home side taking a 14th minute lead. He linked up well with Montano down the left flank with the Colombian fizzing the ball across goal - only for Kurtis Guthrie to somehow fire wide from close range.
The hosts enjoyed a period of dominance midway through the first-half but were unable to make it count with a pair of free-kicks on the edge of the box coming to nothing, while Scott Pittman had to be perfect with a last-ditch challenge on Edwards to prevent the Staggies winger from charging through on goal as the visitors launched a rare counter-attack.
That, indeed, was the story of the first 45 minutes as the Lions played some neat stuff but had a complete lack of a cutting edge when it came to the crucial moment.
It would continue in the early stages of the second -half too as a well-worked passage of play between Kelly and Joel Nouble resulted in Pittman testing Ross Laidlaw but the Staggies stopper was more than a match as he diverted the effort behind.
He produced an even better stop to prevent Ayo Obileye from turning home a Kelly corner-kick from close range.
County offered little at the other end but Jordy Hiwula squandered a great chance moments after his introduction off the bench. The Englishman was able to race onto a through ball but his angled drive flew inches over Shamal George's bar.
They didn't heed that warning as they fell behind minutes later. A slack header from Kelly allowed Hiwula to charge through on goal with his effort clattering the crossbar. Edwards was in the right place to bundle the rebound over the line.
Livingston would fling everything forward in a bid to get back on level terms but were repelled on each and every occasion by a sturdy visiting defence as they fell to a second straight loss.
