Livingston coast to victory over Dundee with three goals in opening 20 minutes

A scintillating start helped guide Livingston to a commanding 4-0 victory away to Dundee and sees the Lions climb into the top six.

Abject Dundee defending played a huge role as the visitors found themselves three goals to the good within 21 minutes.

A mazy run from Alan Forrest was finished off by the unmarked Bruce Anderson on six minutes while Joel Nouble danced his way beyond the backline to tee up Scott Pittman 12 minutes later to double their lead.

And their advantage would be increased just three minutes later as Dundee were caught out by a quick free-kick with Nicky Devlin sliding the ball across goal for Anderson to slam into the net.

Dundee would barely lay a glove on David Martindale's men and it was no surprise when Jack Fitzwater made it four on 65 minutes when he was left completely on his own from a corner to stroke the ball into the far corner.

The Lions couldn't have hoped for a better start as they got their noses in front after just six minutes. Scott Pittman's wonderful cross-field pass found James Penrice in acres of space with the full-back feeding the ball to Forrest. He went on a trademark mazy run into the box before his strike at goal was parried by Ian Lawlor into the path of Anderson to gleefully slam home his 10th league goal of the season.

The home side's defending went from bad to worse as a quick-fire double just before the midway mark of the first half put the game to bed.

Nouble waltzed beyond his defender on 18 minutes before slotting across the face of goal for Pittman to double the away side's lead then three minutes later the dithering Dees defence were caught cold by a quick free-kick with Forrest playing in Devlin down the right flank and the skipper teeing up Anderson to double his account.

Livi's third sparked scenes of fury in amongst the home support with many walking out while plenty of others choosing to hurl abuse.

Dundee did at least show some signs of fight towards the latter stages of the first half as Ryan Sweeney's header from a Paul McMullan free-kick tested Max Stryjek while Jack Fitzwater had to be alert moments later to block a Danny Mullen effort on goal.

Despite experienced duo Charlie Adam and Niall McGinn being introduced at half-time, it was the Lions who would roar out of the gates at the start of the second half. Anderson squandered a brilliant chance to grab his hat-trick when he blasted wide from a Penrice cutback while Pittman fizzed an effort inches wide of Ian Lawlor's right-hand post from 20 yards.

The midfielder would have the ball in the net on 53 minutes but see it ruled out for offside as he bundled home a rebound after Jason Holt's strike from 16 yards was parried by Lawlor.

They would make it four midway through the second half when Forrest's free-kick found its way back to the winger. He teed up Fitzwater with the centre-back in acres of space inside the box as he curled a wonderful effort into the corner.

The visitors showed no signs of letting up and substitute Odin Bailey went close to adding a fifth moments after his introduction as he looked for the far corner after cutting in from the right while Andrew Shinnie saw his effort saved by Lawlor late on as the Lions strolled to three points.
