Livingston boss 'desperate' for Scottish Cup run with Lions as they eye quarter-final berth

Livingston boss David Martindale admits he’s ‘desperate’ for the Lions to book their first Scottish Cup quarter-final berth in 18 years.

The Premiership outfit host second tier Inverness Caledonian Thistle in a last-16 clash on Saturday and are looking to put an end to that unwanted run.

While the Tony Macaroni Arena side have a proud recent history in the League Cup, the same can’t be said for the nation’s premier cup competition.

It’s something the gaffer is keen to change, but he’s well aware of the threat the Highland side will pose – not least because they already have a win in West Lothian to their name this term.

Billy Dodds’ side picked up a 2-1 League Cup victory in August, but Martindale is confident there won’t be a repeat this time.

He said: “I’m absolutely desperate to go on a decent Scottish Cup run. We’ve always done quite well in the League Cup but we’ve never replicated that in the Scottish.

“I always think you need a wee bit of luck with cup draws and things to go in your favour and we’re at home to a team in a lower league. You can’t really ask for anything more at this stage of the competition.”

He added: “Obviously we’re the team in the higher league but we know they’re a very good side. They beat us at the start of the season in the League Cup and they’ll be eyeing a promotion charge for the remainder of the Championship season.

“It’s a one-off game against a really strong team and anything can happen. We need to be at our best and stick to the game plan if we’re going to get into the next round.”
