Livingston boss David Martindale has revealed the club have turned down two offers from St Johnstone for winger Alan Forrest.
He admitted, though, that the 25-year-old has rejected a new contract with the club and sees his future away from the Tony Macaroni Arena.
Signed from Ayr United 18 months ago, Forrest is out of contract in the summer. He has netted 13 times in 62 appearances for the Lions - although eight of those goals have come in the League Cup and he’s found the net just twice this term.
Martindale said he won’t stand in the player’s way should they receive an offer that matches their valuation.
He commented: “I’ve told St Johnstone what I want and they’ve put two bids in now and we’ve knocked them both back.
“Alan has been pretty honest and told me he thinks his future is away from Livingston. I don’t want to keep a player at the club who probably sees his future elsewhere.
“He’s a good kid but it needs to be at a premium to make it worthwhile for Livingston Football Club. I don’t want to discuss the figures but we’re probably in the ball park of 30-35 per cent of a difference in the figure.
“I’ve told St Johnstone what I want and they’ve put two bids in now and we’ve knocked them both back."
He added: “I’m always of the opinion that I would like players to leave this building as an asset to the football club, sign a contract and we’ll all work to try and get you a better move.
“The most frustrating one for me was when we came into the Premiership and all our best players basically left for nothing for better clubs and that was frustrating. I said I was not going to let that happen again.
“If a suitable offer comes in we will consider it because he has made it clear he sees his futures away from Livingston.
“Fair play, he has been open and honest and if he is still here after the transfer window shuts he will give me everything he’s got.”
