Livingston boss believes there was 'a lot to like' in opening pre-season win

Livingston boss David Martindale said there were plenty of positives to take from his side’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Queen of the South.

Scott Pittman opened the scoring on two minutes before teeing up Steven Bradley for the second just after the hour mark. Earlier, Jason Holt had clattered the woodwork with Ayo Obileye missed a penalty against his former team while Shamal George was called into action a couple of times with smart saves.

It was the Lions’ first friendly of the summer with a second coming tomorrow night when they host Alloa Athletic.

Martindale said: “You could tell it was the first game and Queen had been in for a couple of weeks. They were really well organised and looked after the ball. You’re trying to embed the formation and new players in and it was a good first step.

“It was a decent game and there was a good tempo. We scored a couple of nice goals and Shamal made a couple of big saves. There was a lot to like in the game.”

Livi handed debut to Michael Devlin and Mo Sangare with Martindale admitting the former’s class shone through.

He said: “Mikey strolled it. You can see straight away what he’s going to bring to the team. With him, it’s about keeping him fit. Mo’s a wee bit behind in terms of fitness but you can see he’s got a good left foot and he’ll be tenacious and bring a bit of physicality and a range of passing.

“It was a good introduction for him because it was a good Queens team - it wasn’t a stroll in the park because they put him under pressure and he coped pretty well.”
