Livingston boss admits Celtic can hand out Dundee United repeat to '90 per cent' of league

Livingston boss David Martindale says he expects more sides to face a similar fate to tomorrow's Premier Sports Cup opponents Dundee United following their 9-0 defeat to Celtic.

That result led to the Tannadice outfit dismissing manager Jack Ross this morning less than four weeks after his side earned rave reviews for a deserved 1-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa Conference League clash.

Since then, though, they have lost all five games and conceded 24 goals during that span with Sunday's humiliating loss the final straw.

But Martindale believes Ange Postecoglou's men can dish out similar defeats to other clubs over the course of the season.

He commented: "I don’t think Dundee United will be the last team that Celtic give an absolute doing to, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

“I’m at Parkhead a week on Saturday and the form they’re in, the style of play, their intensity. We’ll need to be on our top, top game.

"I genuinely think there will be a few teams coming out on the back of six, sevens, potentially eights and nines. I thought they were frightening at times."

He added: “Let’s be honest it’s brilliant if you’re a Celtic fan, and maybe a Dundee fan, but you probably feel a wee bit sorry because I genuinely think it could happen to 90 per cent of the league this year."

The Livingston boss, however, insisted he won’t allow feelings of sympathy for the Tannadice side to linger, as he aims to take his Lions side a step closer to Hampden.

He added: "My job is to get into the next round of the cup, and that’s what we’ll be trying to do, so all those feelings of feeling for them will be long gone by then.”
