Additionally, there's a growing appreciation for unique, handcrafted pieces that add character and a sense of history to a space. This trend reflects a desire for individuality and sustainability in home decor.’
2. Get cosy with earthy tones
If you’re searching for on-trend living room colour schemes, then look no further than shades inspired by mother nature. From warming browns like Pantone’s colour of the year, Mocha Mousse to clay-like terracottas and even tones of green are among the most popular colours of the year.
‘Earthy tones are still very much present in living room designs for 2025,’ confirms Claire Garner, director of Claire Garner Design Studio. ‘Washed terracotta, fresh greens, and laundered linens are being layered together to create a relaxing and calming space. Drawing inspiration from nature, these earthy tones help create a harmonious environment that promotes tranquillity and a grounded feeling.’
3. Love your living room’s curves
Curved shapes from arches to irregular, organic forms have replaced harsh angles in interiors. And this applies to the living room as much as it does to any other room – this is reflected in sofa trends but can be incorporated through the silhouette of the cushions or the shape of the mirror hanging above the mantelpiece, too.
‘Curved furniture will be favoured for a softer aesthetic, encouraging a positive flow of energy around the room,’ says Paulina Wojas, interior designer at Lovesofas. ‘Sharp corners will be a thing of the past as many opt for curved tables and sofas to create a sleek and inviting space.’

At the end of last year, cherry red was introduced as Pinterest’s colour of the year for 2025, capturing a colour movement already in full swing as shades of dark red and burgundy had already been rising in popularity. And the living room is one of the best places to embrace this colour trend.
‘Cherry red is on trend for 2025 and is a great addition to living rooms, especially during the winter months because it exudes warmth and energy,’ says Kate Palmer, creative director at The Painted Furniture Company. ‘Its vibrant tone can brighten up darker, shorter days, creating a cosy atmosphere that feels especially comforting when the weather outside is cold. One way to introduce this trend is to start by adding cherry red through painted furniture pieces, such as a statement side table, a bold dresser or coffee table that stand out against neutral walls. Accentuate the look with smaller decorative elements, like cushions, vases or artwork that feature cherry red hues.’
6. Create a statement with lighting
Statement, sculpturally shaped lamps and light fixtures are one of the biggest lighting trends of 2025. And with the lounge being the centre of the home and usually the biggest room in the house, this is the ideal place to experiment with this look.
‘Statement lighting is becoming increasingly popular, with elegant metalwork emerging as a significant trend, adding sophistication and character to living room spaces. While exposed bulbs were once trendy, there is now a preference for linen shades that gently diffuse light, creating a warm glow for a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Statement lighting fixtures not only serve as functional pieces but also as focal points that enhance the overall feel of the room,’ Claire Garner explains.

Dopamine decor is trending! And with it, all the bright shades and playful, individualistic homewares and decor is fair game, as long as it brings you joy and expresses your personality through your interior.
‘Living room colour trends in 2025 are embracing a more expressive and personal approach,’ says Nicole Greenhalgh, creative manager for soft furnishing specialists rucomfy. ‘Bold colours are making a statement, injecting personality and vibrancy into spaces. This trend encourages homeowners to express their individuality through colour and to curate spaces that reflect their unique style and interests.’
9. Layer your lighting
Even though layered lighting is not so much a trend as a tool to achieve a cosy ambiance in the living room, this method really took off last year as many started favouring layering of various light sources over switching on the big overhead light. And in 2025, that’s only set to continue with the new cosy living room trend.
‘Ensuring you have a mix of lighting in a room is key, as this will help to bring the room to life,’ says Ally Dowsing-Reynolds, co-founder and lighting expert from Dowsing & Reynolds. ‘Include a range of task lighting, accent and overhead lights to help the room work for different purposes, from reading to socialising.’
10. Opt for rich jewel colours
And it’s not just dark ruby (or cherry) red that’s been given a spotlight this year. All deep jewel tones are making a comeback into our living rooms, giving rise to some unexpected colour trends like purple shades being embraced once again for the first time since the 90s.
‘Jewel tones will be favoured for living rooms this year, particularly green, blue, and purple to evoke boldness and elegance. These colours have a dramatic effect and create a chic, visually appealing living room,’ Paulina at Lovesofas says.
