Living in Fulham: Heart DJ Pandora Christie explores the area’s best markets, shops, pubs and restaurants

When I decided to buy a flat, I looked all over the place — but my heart always brought me back to Fulham. It’s got everything you could possibly want.

I bought a one-bedroom flat with a garden in a modern development four years ago and I share it with my dog, Henry. He’s an 11-year-old staffie cross and I got him from Battersea.

I actually bought the flat from people I met while out walking my previous dog — they had two dogs and we got chatting. I told them I wanted to buy a flat and they said they were selling their flat and invited me round to have a look.

It was perfect and I really haven’t done anything to it. I have a big mirror, which they left behind, and their sofa and coffee table.

Best eating and drinking

For breakfast at weekends I go to Local Hero on Fulham Road and Henry comes with me.

The Harwood Arms on Walham Grove is a cosy pub and restaurant and it has the best Sunday roasts you will ever find. I also recommend the venison scotch egg. The only problem is that there’s always a waiting list to get in.

The Prince (Lillie Road) has a massive outdoor area, the vibe is just brilliant; it’s a fun night out. Nam Long on Old Brompton Road is also a very fun place. It’s a really, really small bar where you go for an after drink.

Where I work out

There’s a swimming pool, gym, sauna and steam room in my complex. I go in fully intending to go to the gym but I usually bypass it and just go to the sauna.

For a culture fix

I really love the botanical gardens at Fulham Palace, it’s really beautiful there.

To commune with nature

Bishop’s Park, no question. It’s got a beautiful lake, which Henry always likes to go and jump in, a fake beach and a children’s playground. It’s got a little bit of something for everyone.

Grocery shopping

Prima deli on North End Road: try the Polish doughnuts (Adrian Lourie)

Prima deli on North End Road has got everything: fruit and vegetables, spices, sourdough bread and Polish doughnuts, which are triple the size of normal ones and have a plum filling. They are amazing.

I like North End Road market to buy fruit and vegetables. There’s also this little stall, the Pattie Hut — the patties are to die for.

Getting around

I generally get on the Tube but when the weather is good I walk everywhere; got to keep my step count up.

Dream street

Chipstead Street because it is really leafy and they have these huge redbrick lion houses, which are beautiful.

Something you only see in Fulham

Fulham has got Europe’s biggest Harley Davidson showroom — it is pretty something.

What’s the catch?

There isn’t one really — although it is very expensive.

In three words

Diverse, vibrant, always something happening.

Schools in Fulham

There are no sink schools in this postcode — all the state primary schools in Fulham hold good Ofsted reports.

For older students, SW6 is home to one of London’s highest-performing and more controversial state senior schools — The London Oratory (boys), which is rated outstanding and has educated the offspring of the likes of Tony Blair and Harriet Harman.

For girls, there is Lady Margaret School, which also holds an outstanding report from the schools’ watchdog. For parents who prefer a mixed school, Fulham Cross Academy is good, according to Ofsted.
