‘Living a dream’ - Man City fans go crazy over two Sergio Gomez comments

Manchester City fans are elated about the signing of Sergio Gomez and are particularly impressed by two aspects he says he will bring to the club.

The 21-year-old’s £11m move to the Etihad was confirmed on Tuesday, plugging the back-up hole so desperately needed at left-back. The Spaniard has penned a four-year deal and will don the No.21 that has been vacant since David Silva’s exit.

He will stay in the first-team set-up rather than be loaned out after Pep Guardiola lost out on Marc Cucurella to Chelsea. City supporters seem to be happy about this, and were further pleased by his comments upon signing with the club.

He said: “I used to play as a striker and I like scoring goals, so I was happy with that decision [to take penalties for Anderlecht]. When it comes to taking a penalty, I take them calmly."

City fans have lauded his versatility and were given an added boost by learning of his spot-kick skills. The club have arguably had a shortage of accomplished penalty takers in recent years, but now have a handful thanks to the arrivals of Gomez and Erling Haaland.

Praising his ability to play in different positions, followers on Twitter said:

  • @2urayah_: Haaland and Gomez, we are covered.
  • @bis2_m: He basically is backup of every position, fairs.
  • @Mcfc_Kevinn: Signed a LB who played eight positions.
  • @eppajo_mcfc: That squad depth thanks to him, he literally can play everywhere.

Meanwhile, others were more pleased about his spot-kick attributes.

  • @KDB17ii: We went from having zero good penalty takers to having two of them in one window.
  • @Inhindsighyt: Another penalty taker. Might be part of recruitment strategy.
  • @SongezoGozo: We're burying pens... I really like this new City.
  • @IEruona: Wow! It’s like living a dream. Haaland and Gomez, penalty decisions will definitely end in a goal.
