Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton opens up on 'crazy' new role for Blackburn Rovers

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton says he 'enjoyed' playing at centre-back for Blackburn Rovers in their 2-1 win over Bradford City.

The Championship side progressed to the third round of the competition with a victory on Tuesday night, but the 19-year-old was utilised in a rather unfamiliar position. He went on to have a solid game as the official Blackburn Rovers Twitter account shared after the game: "To the Liverpool fans asking, yes Tyler Morton really did play centre-back tonight... he was boss."

The youngster joined the Lancashire-based club earlier in the summer on a season-long loan and has already made six appearances for the club. He's registered just one assist so far, in their Carabao Cup first-round win over Hartlepool earlier this month.

Speaking after Tuesday night's win, the youngster admitted he had played centre-back when he was much younger and he's willing to play wherever manager Jon Dahl Tomasson needs him to.

"I was speaking to my dad ahead of the game, it was ages ago, maybe when I six, seven, but since then I haven’t really played there," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. "I found it good, I enjoyed it and it was a good challenge for me.

"I’m willing to do whatever the gaffer wants me to or the staff want me to do, and if it means playing centre-half and getting the win, then I’d be happy. I was happy with how I played and I’d do it again for him. I’d do anything for him and Blackburn because this is where I am and the club I’m playing at."

Taking to Instagram following the game, Morton also wrote: "A crazy yet enjoyable night at centre-half last night. Big win for the boys and a massive congrats to those who made their debuts should be proud."

Tomasson also spoke after the game and revealed he had no other option but to put Morton at centre-back. "I didn’t have any choice!" he said post-match. "I always say good footballer players can play anywhere."

The draw for the third round of the competition will take place on Wednesday night following the completion of Tranmere's clash with Newcastle United. Liverpool will also be included in the draw at this stage.
