Liverpool have Caoimhin Kelleher in goal instead of Alisson for today’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, while Jarell Quansah gets the nod at right-back at Wembley.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is ruled out with the injury he suffered against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday and the Reds are also without both Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez.

Quansah or Wataru Endo looked the most likely options for Liverpool boss Arne Slot at right-back, with the former getting the nod after impressing off the bench in midweek.

Liverpool have been boosted by the availability of Ibrahima Konate, who has been passed fit and starts after being forced off against PSG.

Slot faced a key call on whether to start Alisson or Kelleher in goal, keeping faith in the latter in this competition.

He also had big decisions to make in attack, where Cody Gakpo made his return as a substitute in extra time against PSG but did not look fully fit.

Diogo Jota started against PSG and was vying with Darwin Nunez for his place up top. The Portuguese gets the nod again alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Liverpool are still waiting to learn how long Alexander-Arnold will be out.

Slot said: “So, Trent is indeed not available. He will not be there at the final. But he is still to be assessed for how long it’s going to take but we do expect him back in the end of the season.”
