Liverpool XI vs Everton: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injury latest for Premier League

Injury boost: Trent Alexander-Arnold could return for Liverpool against Everton - (ES Composite)

Liverpool have been handed a potential major new injury boost ahead of Wednesday night’s final Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool lost 1-0 to Plymouth in a massive FA Cup fourth round shock on Sunday and now must dust themselves down quickly ahead of the short trip across Stanley Park.

Trent Alexander-Arnold could return for Liverpool against Everton, having missed the last two games due to a knee injury suffered in the win over Bournemouth at the start of the month. He has joined in with training this week and a final decision on his fitness will be taken on Wednesday.

Fellow England defender Joe Gomez, however, will not feature for the Reds in the rearranged Merseyside derby.

Gomez came off injured early against Plymouth on his comeback from a hamstring issue that had kept him sidelined since December and Slot has admitted concern with the latest problem affecting the same leg. He is still undergoing assessment and will definitely not be involved against Everton.

A decision will also need to be made on Curtis Jones, with the midfielder left on the bench at Home Park on Sunday due to a slight knock.

Still, Liverpool will be able to call upon most of their regulars as they look to spoil the farewell party at Goodison.

Doubts: Alexander-Arnold, Jones

Injured: Morton, Gomez
