Liverpool weather to be hotter than Portugal as sun set to return

Temperatures are set to soar this week, with Merseyside forecast to be hotter than the Algarve.

As the mercury in parts of Liverpool and Wirral hit up to 27C , the temperatures will only reach highs of 24C in Porto, Portugal. The Met Office says despite it getting warmer over the next few days, they are not expecting any temperature records to be broken.

Today, on Monday, August 8, there will be cloud early in the morning but that will clear allowing for plenty of sunshine throughout the day. It may be a bit windy, but it will stay warm with a maximum temperature of 24C.

From today onwards it will only get warmer, as Tuesday will see the mercury hit 25C. Come Thursday, it will hit 26C and over the weekend 27C.

It will remain dry throughout the week. Met Office chief forecaster Steve Willington said: “We could see parts of the UK entering heatwave conditions if the above-average temperatures last for three days or more. Many areas of the UK, especially the south will witness temperatures several degrees higher than average, but these values are likely to be well below the record-breaking temperatures we saw in mid-July.

“As the high pressure builds there is very little meaningful rain in the forecast, especially in those areas in the south of England, which experienced very dry conditions last month. Elsewhere in the UK, such as in northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, rain-bearing weather fronts will make limited headway against the high pressure, bringing some rain to north-western parts of the UK.”
